Morning guys.

I'm on the look for a good laptop for music production. Do any of you guys have any good reccomendations?

My only no-go is HP's really. As the fan annoys me ALOT.

I used to have an HP, but now I have a 17" MacBook Pro and that thing is amazing. It's quite the powerhouse!

How much have you got to spend? That's the first queston. Second question Mac or PC?

Let the war begin...

I have a Toshiba Satellite L755 (8go RAM, i5 2.90GHZ in turbo boost)
I wi$h I had a macbook but it'$ quite expen$$$ive.

I don't believe that mac is so much better though. Logic crashes too. And nowadays, you can find pretty good and stable PC.
The good thing would be to have a mac AND a PC :P

As long as your not
Downloading warez or porn

Mac or pc are both fine.. Only reason to use a Mac would be to use logic.. Other than that tbh its the same

( I have a MacBook pro btw.. But have no prob with pc if I wasn't using logic).

Just don't download warez or porn really..

I wasn't referring to a mac/pc debate, simply asking what he was after. My logic does crash, as does Cubase on PC - all software isn't 100% crashproof. It doesn't matter what you use, I have both Mac and PC and OSX on a PC. :)

had a kunshan gaming laptop for three years and it died this summer cos of power surge from a lightning strike. but it ran every game and never had any problems with big ableton projects with alot of vst running
Was running vista 32B with 4BG ram and 2.8GHz dualcore something with 1GB GPU 17" screen

think they look nice and it was very stable

People say I can't afford a Mac, I say I can't afford throwing money out of the window.. Seriously I will never pay that much just to get a damn apple on the cover of my computer! Rather this: http://deadwildroses...6/applefail.jpg !

A Core i7 2630QM laptop (or better) is all you need. :)
Also, some decent FullHD resolution will work, you need big working space.

I have a Sony F21 with that CPU, it's better than my Q6600 desktop PC overclocked at 3 GHz!!!

I used to have an HP pavillion, but the fan crapped out and I lost the hard drive. This happened about 3 days before a major festival gig, where I had all the ableton files. NOT happy. I went with toshiba, and i've been happy with it so far. I use my laptop mostly for gigs, and have a PC for production at home.

They might cost a fortune...

but the feeling that it will always work like day one without having to waste time fixing problems and instead spend that time making music is worth more than the price you pay imho...

I get what your saying...

i would like to say that i have bootcamp and i can run windows too with no problem... i just dont need to do it... so i practically never boot windows.

I guess the thing here is that there are peeps who like to rip their computer guts apart and enjoy dealing with problem solving...

i only use my computer for music production and internet (this forum, email etc...) and i havent found any other friendlier / more powerful computer for these activities...

If ye all peeps enjoy saving loads of bucks at the expense of having less productive time (time you make music) thats fine by me... i value my time a lot and paying a bit more for my working computer is fine by me... and aparently by most of the profesional music makers that we nearly worship in this forum.

cheers.

The MAc vs PC debate is irrelevant.

The MBP vs Laptop is less irrelevant.

One of the main issues with laptops is that in recent years they've become cheap consumables rather than quality working products. There are so many corners cut in basic design that buying anything less than a dedicated audio laptop can be a bit of a lottery. That's not to say you can't buy a £700 off the shelf laptop and it won't work perfectly well, but equally you could buy a Sony vaio for £1000 and it'll cause you nothing but headaches (not singling out Sony laptops, it's just a point worth noting). Also, should you need it Firewire can be a total pain on laptops.

When you buy a MBP, you can be pretty sure that it'll do what you want it to do as that's what it's designed for. Add the new Thunderbolt connectivity and you've almost got a desktop replacement.
