I presonally like Contrast, it is.. "different", it sounds fresh, the chord progression feels special, the bassline is really groovy and powerfull. Ok, the base at the beginning is a little bit boring, but when all the elements come together I think it is cool!

Definately one of the tracks I would save from the compilation, together with Tokyo, Afterthought and In And Out Of Phase, no more.

Well, I guess by saying "old anjuna" he meant it is not based on farts, cuts, supersaws or anticlimatic drops, and it is focused on the melody and the progression

Just listened to this after getting it through the post yesterday. Very nice music, Disc 1 is my favourite over the two. I quite like this new sound that sort of developed during the last year, it sounds very club-friendly to me and more appealing to my friends which I think is cool. However, it hasn't moved me in a way that the previous eight volumes have and I didn't really get any goosebump moments or that feeling you get at the end of an epic mix where you take your headphones off and enter back to the real world feeling like you've been taken on a wild journey. Which is kinda sad because I miss hearing this music doing this to me but despite this all of the tracks are of a brilliant quality and I can imagine them going off in the clubs. There were some "wow" moments in places like in the drop into the string breakdown of In And Out Of Phase and some right gems in there such as Above & Beyond's opening track Tokyo, Afterthought and Median were all top class, Bloom is a pretty nice track and the way the bass behaves in that tune is pretty cool. Formula Rossa doesn't sound as amazing as I imgine it would do in a club, it was a bit boring during listening through it however I think it's mainly a track that's to be played in a club situation so it is still top notch in my eyes. Britanica is a right gem and I've grown to love it within the first few listens, it's even my ringtone at the moment! (sad whatever...) :P Also Progress rounds off the disc nicely and I think all of the three Oliver Smith cuts are pretty nice, easy to listen to tunes. Disc 2 isn't quite as good imo, I think that's down to the fact that I'm used to the second disc giving me all of the goosebump moments and generally feeling more lifted and venturing into faster, harder territory. Still, Bipolar is pretty sick tune and I love the chords in it (almost like a funked-up version of Synapse Dynamics), Keep Your Secrets was a pretty unique thing to listen to and it definitely did feel how they described it in the booklet. Overdrive is a pretty sick tune, awesome groove and that addictive Jaytech sound, Mozart is an absolute banger, I think I'd go mental to this at an event (I really hope they play it at the Birmingham HMV Institue in April!), the way the main theme changes patternduring the end of the buildup and drops in sidechained with the awesome syncopation and the bitcrushed vocal chop always puts a smile on my face. A real cheeky sort of party tune, way better than Around The World imo. Like I said, it left me feeling a bit too neutral if you know what I mean and by the end of the compilation I didn't really think "WOW..." like with the others that I've listened to, but hey Above & Beyond are getting bigger and better whilst still keeping their true sound and vision, as well as keeping it fresh and putting forward different stuff to push boundaries etc... which is awesome and I can't wait to finally see them this year, it's been a bloody long wait!

Well thought out and well written - appreciate your honest and in-depth feedback on the album. Personally, it is one of my faves (but my all time fave is Vol 4 which I dont believe if a forum favourite), but its nice to read something with some proper thought behind it. thanks.

Vol.4 is my favourite in terms of representing both labels, Vol.2 & 3 best represent Anjunabeats as a sole label imo.
