Hey people,

Some of you may have already heard the short sample of this track in the daily clip thread, I had a go at making it into a full track. I finished off the arrangement and hopefully managed to add a hook to the track as was suggested. Also I haven't come up with a name for it yet so suggestions are more than welcome.

If you guys have any tracks you would like some feedback on let me know and I will return the favour.

Around 2.40 - I wanted to hear that melodic riff rise a few notes before recyling and repeating. The track speaks to me of melody so I'm expecting some as a listen but at the mo it stays too closed up melody wise IMO - you are the better judge of your'e own work so you decide of course!

Love the punch and clarity you got going. The bass line is the strongest element for me. I do very much like the lead sound too.

It's a good bit of work Joe. I find the bar is sooo high now that getting a truly stand out track is akin to climbing Everest - I myself am not satisfied with any of my stuff yet.

Sorry I haven't listened to your new tunes. I'll be fairly struck for time in the following days, but I'll make a point of giving my thoughts on this, like you do for me.

I'll call back tomorrow!

Richard: I know what you mean about extending the melody, as atm it is very static and closed, but I also want to be careful that I don't over do it. If I extend the melody I would like to keep it brief so that it can be a hook for the track, unless there already is one. Would you be able to point me in the right direction in terms of what you personally would do for a hook, if the track still needs one.

I am glad you like the lead as I was trying to make that the hook but I don't know if I succeeded. I will make the melody change in the lead and possibly the bass as well so long as it does not ruin the sound of the bassline in some way. I did at one point have a more complex melody but it required the bass to change notes and it made the bass sound dull and too different when it was on the lower notes but maybe the bass can just stick with the bassline it has atm.

Owen: Cheers Owen I look forward to your thoughts and especially any critiques that you have on this track, if you do manage to get some time to have a listen.

I agree with Rich about the chord change at around 2.40, it feels a touch static after that point where my head is expecting something different. Perhaps also layer in a plucky popcorn sound after the break as well to lift the main riff, and getting the groove of that right will be critical.

I really like the ideas so far, it's not trying to sound like everything else and already has it's own identity.

nice work

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys really appreciate you taking the time to listen to it :D

I have been working on chord changes and have added a melody to the track which hopefully still acts as a hook in some way.

@Owen: Great to see this is your favourite track of mine, I will work on the breakdown I don't listen to much tech trance but I guess I will just try to make it more original. Did you have any ideas or anything in mind?

Hopefully I will have the update uploaded today or tomorrow sometime.

Hey everyone,

I finished reworking this track please let me know what you think as I have worked hard getting it to this point, any critiques would be great. I have added melodies and chord changes and up'd the bpm and I think it is sounding a lot better now. Anyway I will let you be the judge hopefully you enjoy it!

I really like that lead. Strong identity.

Maybe duck the bassline just a bit to get it grooving, it's a little stacatto at the moment.

I also think the mix is way oversmashed, it's a bit of a pain to listen to after a while, just pull back on the compression a bit maybe.

Nice though. I like. :walkman:

Cool glad you still like it. I have been trying out a new way to mixdown the songs with more limiting and compression but I think as you say I went a bit overboard and listening to it now it really damages the pads in the breakdown as well as the track as a whole so I'll definitely change the mixdown process to let the track breathe a bit more and see how the bass goes with more sidechaining.

Thanks again :D
