I was wondering since everyone is just flaming Armin every now and then...

But does he make/plays bad music ?
Wheres his faults?
Can some of you haters pinpoint where he's going wrong?

(Not talking about armada because they're just stupid ... ;) )

I'll start

I think hes a good producer but i cant say anything about him dj'ing because i haven't seen him live...
Its maybe a little mainstream but it has a quality feel to is - incuding hes new stuff..

I quite like Full Focus and not giving up on love

Lets hear it from you guys an anjunaforums ;D

Armin was the reason that i got into EDM in the first place, saw him in australia and he was amazing so i decided to get more into trance etc and, four years on, i'm still here. He's still one of the best live djs i think, though for me his new stuff (full focus etc) is not as strong as his older material, but i don't think it deserves the flak that it gets especially from the haters on here. I probably won't buy his next album, but i have no doubt that it will sell enormously!

I really want to see him live, anyone could recomend me armin only?

I still think that Armin doesn`t produces his tracks himself. After that, I don`t like his popy trance, but van Buuren is good DJ (maybe cuz he gets every trance tracks from promo and has a large selection of music. BTW yesterday`s TATW defeated last ASOT :msn-wink:

Just listen to Mirage. On this album Armin did most of the producing himself for the first time and it shows: it's utter crap. Compare it to Imagine which was brilliant, what a difference... No Benno, no good stuff.
Only good track on his new album imo is 'Take A Moment'. Coincidence that it was made together with Josh Gabriel? I think not.
Armin is a poor producer, but a very good DJ.

I've never really liked Armin can't really explain why. Only time i saw him play ''live'' was at Trance Energy this year. I gotta admit i remember him playing the Not Going Home Remix, but no further details, eventhough the idea of a livestream to New York was really good. The set of Mr. Emery and the trio from A&B however will be with me untill the day i die.

Maybe Armin only does good on collabs?

I would give Armin a 5, but i feel his recent productions, as some people have already mentioned, have not been on par with his older stuff. As a DJ, hes one of the best in the world. He really is amazing at reading the crowd, and everytime i've seen him he's been immense.

I gave him a 5 out of 5. Reason is his hard work to the top. Second he hosts a very good show and put alot of effort in it see it like he hosts ASOT live parties. And the productions released under his name are simply amazing for big crowds. No matter what critic he gets, you always see him smile as it would break many out there instead. So big respect :)

Armin's productions are definitely sub-par to his DJing performances. However, I'd definitely say Armin Only and ASOT parties were absolutely utterly amazing.

I agree with others that his productions are sub par however there is no doubt that he is a talented dj. I personally find his songs a little cheesy and somewhat outdated.

Never heard him DJ live but do enjoy ASOT and he was of the names that got me into Trance, production I agree with most people they're nothing special. All though I did his own mix of not giving up on love.

I think the guy is unfairly talked about tbh. It's not like he's a bad guy or a bad thing for trance. Indeed a lot of the producers that you and I listen to today have taken certain amounts of inspiration from him. Kudos.

Armins older tracks were and still are some of the best trance songs ever written. Its a shame that he feels the need to appeal to a wider market, in doing so, producing pop songs.

That and his new found tech style !!!!! grrrr

Armin is the best DJ in the world still ! (for moi anyway)

is this a joke?

you CAN NOT lump together djing and producing in to one single category, it makes no sense.

producer - woeful

dj - good (live sets i mean. ASOT is not djing, its a radio show promoting new music)

Not the best producer in the world but my god how good were his remixes of Hernan Brood's 'Saturday Night' and Isle De Lange's 'Great Escape'?! It's just not acceptable that 'The Great Escape' never got a release!!

Good, I'm glad someone finally started this topic.

As I've said a million times before, Armin knows how to mix the beats and make a great show but his music hasn't been as exciting as it used to be.

Imagine was utter utter drivel compared to Mirage!! Not saying Mirage is a master piece but its a damn sight better than Imagine!!

Hmm, guess we have opposite tastes for his album, since I thought Take A Moment was the most bland/boring track on the album along with 1-2 other tracks, and I think Imagine is worse than Mirage.

Anyways, I gave him a 4, since Armin's older tracks are the reason I started to listen to Trance, but I docked him the extra point because some of his recent (post 2007) productions are really garbage. However, he still does give us truly great material, such as Orbion, Mirage, Minack, Face To Face, etc.

As for his DJing, I personally haven't been to his shows before, but listening to his live sets from the past and comparing them to now, it's going downhill imo

Yeah, apparently tastes differ. Would be kinda dull if we all liked the same thing :)

Crap producer but fantastic DJ.

Mind you, I've only seen/heard him live once, back in 05 at Godskitchen I think. :walkman:

productions: sometimes good, mostly not great, sometimes dire. but his mashups are usually quality

dj: awesome. his show at global gathering '09 is still one of the best sets i've seen to date and the other times i've seen him since then have all been brilliant. the guy knows how to rock a set!

I agree with the general consensus really - seen him live and there is no doubting he is an amazing DJ, but I dont get even a bit excited when he has a new release out.

I sadly never got to see Armin play a kick ass set, and I've seen him like 6 times now. His music and sets during the past 3 years, ever since Universal Religion 3, have been pretty dismal. But, I will admit that 'Mirage' is a pretty great album. It does exactly what he says it does, it highlights the varying sounds of 2010. The only complaint I have about his new album, and other's like Super8 & Tab, is that these albums need to have at least one or two mega-super-bombs, and neither of the albums really seem to have that. Gareth Emery on the other hand did the whole 'album' thing totally right!

As a producer I've gone for 3, as much as I love Blue Fear and Communication, I'm not one for Rising Star-Touch and many of his Rising Star remixes havent really done it for me.

anyone who can produce tracks of the quality of "blue fear" and "communication" will always have my respect....

and you never know, if he keeps practising, one day he might even be as good on the decks as i am

:P

Cours i have you tit :w00t:

I loved his last album. This new one does not sound that great though.

But just because he is making shit tunes now does not take away the fact that he was once an amazing producer.
