Lately I find that I can't finish my productions as the topic title says ! I find myself so stuck at the detail job
such as sound mixing up to some point , gain and EQ issues and stuff which actually concern me a lot but I really
can't seem to be ableto finish almost anything ! I mean , what is happening ? I used to always finish my stuff though
I am so much stuck on the details :(

Is it that you are getting bored? Or just running out of ideas, I used to be in one for a few months ago, that's when I switched to trance :)

I was getting really bored with hands up so I went to producing house, and then trance. Now I can finish tracks again. Also if you're just running out of ideas, try producing less. Take a break and try doing fun and new stuff. It'll help give your mind a break from producing and eventually you'll be crankin out new tracks :)

I think it is important to limit how much you tweak things, I am working on a track atm and I was feeling like you. I tried to add things like new melodies more instruments and eq/compress things etc but it just wasn't working. Maybe you have too many elements and so no matter how hard you try to fit them all together with eq it just doesn't work and then when you remove elements because the other ones that are left over are so thin it just doesn't sound full anymore... thats what i found but maybe you don't have this problem. If you have the structure of the track and the melodies and instruments don't get too caught up in the mixdown stage. If you really liked your track, which I hope you did, don't worry so much about mixing if it sounded good originally (before you began the mixing stage) then chances are it will still sound good and you probably only need to do minor eq work.

What exactly are you having trouble with?

I was in this situation up until a few weeks ago. the last track i finished was in february! lol alot of it was down to the hours im working and what not. i bought my self a guitar and started to learn that so my mind was still thinking musically. then a couple of weeks ago i had a brain dump and started about 8 tracks! got plenty to work with now plus i can play a new instrument. it worked for me quite well. but it is frustrating. as the others have said try taking a break. also try not to be too hard on yourself when producing. just enjoy it and see what you come up with. hope this helps mate :)

By the sounds of things you really need to stop focusing on fine details. If you still can't find any inspiration, then I would consider taking up an instrument. Do you even have a midi keyboard?

You could also step back and take a new approach. Here's something you might want to look at:

The Visual Side
A great blog

Thank you for all your replies guys ! Yeah , it seems like I am being a little too hard on myself lately because I
actually like being strict to my sound and always getting better but I really really seem to like my tracks at the
very start and then I quickly get bored of them or ry to find flaws and stuff , you know :(

But as Owsey says , maybe it is time I stop focusing so damn much on the details and maybe take up a different
approach towards production ! I've tried playing around the midi and stuff but it didn't work as my past few days I
was too busy mixing the bassline and trying to create a half decent perc loop :(

be creative first i say... you can always come back and hammer out the details later. that creative spark is fleeting at best.

if you are mixing a already and have no completed song it so easy to get lost in the mix and lose you creative mojo (aka feel bored)!

You gotta' know when to stop. A track is never finished (what does "finished" even mean); you can always add more and tweak here and there, but at some point you have to decide to stop, wait a week, then listen to the track again on fresh ears. If you love it, submit it. If they love it, they'll ask you to make a couple alterations, and that'll be it.

What if it is a remix contest and you're running short on time ? ;)
